France will outlaw the sale of all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040, its new environment minister, Nicolas Hulot, has announced. It will also ban any “new project to use petrol, gas or coal”, as well as shale oil, by that date.
Doing my usual surfing, I came across the above. Bam! The first thing that came to mind was, 'how will Nigeria and OPEC survive this by the time the ban cut across developed nations who are still dependent or partially dependent on fossil fuel?' Actually, France has joined other developed nations and it is a great move for France as they have taken a giant step towards making the world safe and staying committed to the green revolution. Yet, Nigeria is still working hard to explore Oil and Gas with barely functional refineries; fighting over the resources.

I think it is high time we think along side with other parts of the world who have begun working towards sustainable and renewable energy sources. In the nearest future, virtually crude oil will no longer longer be in the fore front of economy determinant. Germany and India already announced to ban use of Oil products by 2030; Netherlands and Norway to ban it by 2025. While China and Britain are looking forward to 2035 and 2040 respectively. What is Nigeria doing about it? Is there any plan in the faintest manner to show how we are preparing for the future. Where the likes of Albania, Iceland, Paraguay, Norway has achieved very close to 100% renewable energy sources. Perhaps, someone out there is aware of what the Nigerian government is doing about it, please enlighten us. But like a friend said, "The world is thinking green, our government is thinking black(crude oil)."
